“Any Jew who says that Israel can be a Jewish state and a democratic state is either a fool- or worse”. Exiled from the United States after his Jewish Defence League was linked to terrorism, Meir Kahane moved to Israel, where his extremist, anti-democratic views united both the right and the left against him. This revealing documentary explores the lasting impact Kahanism has had on Israeli politics. Thirty years after he was barred from Israeli parliament, filmmaker Ilan Rubin Fields shows how Kahane’s ideological descendants are finding newfound support, and Kahane’s prophecy about the divide between Judaism and democracy is echoed in the hall of the Knesset.
