(New Gen) Tisha B’Av and the Hope for a Better Future

27 July 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Tisha B’Av is the most solemn day in the Jewish calendar — one of intentional mourning and reflection. It marks the destruction of the First and Second Temple, then also the expulsion of Jews from England in 1290 and from Spain in 1492. It marks the end of a centralized Judaism and the beginning of a diasporic Judaism. It provides an opportunity to contemplate themes of destruction, redemption, and the pursuit of social justice.

As young diaspora Jews, we’ll hold space to talk about the complexities of our experiences and engage in reflections like:

  • What does it mean to be a young diaspora Jew?
  • Do we relate to Israel? If so, how?
  • What’s our responsibility to Israel, if any?
  • What’s our responsibility to the pursuit of social justice?

Join NIFC New Generations on July 27th to discuss shared experiences and enduring hope for a better future. There will be sitting on the ground (in a park), food, discussions, a bit of ritual, and most of all, community.
