Last week, the Israeli military raided the offices of seven leading Palestinian civil society organizations and ordered them to cease their vital work. The raids came ten months after the Israeli Ministry of Defense designated these seven human rights groups “terrorist” organizations, without presenting any serious evidence to back up that claim.
Simply put, this is not what democratic countries do.
The New Israel Fund global network and our partners know that human rights defenders protect us all. The Israeli human rights community has shown solidarity with these seven organizations, including by placing an ad in Haaretz yesterday. We join them in standing with our Palestinian human rights colleagues today.
