About the film:
“The Soldier’s Opinion should become the talk of the day in the country. The result is fascinating.” (Avner Shavit, Walla)
Official Selection, Jerusalem Film Festival, Israel 2022
For over fifty years, the Israeli military censorship secretly copied soldiers’ personal letters under the guise of preventing the disclosure of military secrets. In fact, the purpose of the censors was to collect and analyze the views of ordinary soldiers and present them to leaders in a top-secret report identified as “The Soldier’s Opinion.” Tens of thousands of letters were collected, revealing the most intimate thoughts of the soldiers. Drug use and homosexual activity were also flagged for attention. This revealing documentary explores the impact of the bureau’s intrusion on both the writers and the censors.
