In this incisive documentary, director Danae Elon (Winner of the 2017 David A. Stein Award for The Patriarch’s Room) explores the role that architecture has played aesthetically, ideologically and strategically in creating contemporary Jerusalem. By implementing a law that made it mandatory to use Jerusalem Stone in all newly constructed or renovated buildings, the city’s aesthetic integrity was retained, but it also had the consequence of ensuring that any re-division of the city would become materially impossible. In her interviews with town planners and architects such as Moshe Safdie, Elon explores the ethical implications of their projects being used in the service of demographic and political purposes.
