As elections loom in Israel, an unexpected issue has thrust itself into public debate: the crisis facing the Israeli health system. And as violence flares in Gaza, civilians close to the border on both sides fear not only fighting but also limited medical access afterwards.
The vision of Israel’s founding included equality for all, including equal access to health care. Enter the 3,500 members and volunteers of Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, whose advocacy and mobile clinics fight for Israelis and non-citizens alike facing discrimination or limited access to health care.

About Us
Physicians for Human Rights – Israel (PHRI) stands at the forefront of the struggle for human rights–the right to health in particular–in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Founded in 1988 by a group of Israeli physicians, PHRI works to promote a just society where the right to health is granted equally to all people under Israel’s responsibility.

About Our Speaker
Ran Goldstein is the Executive Director of Physicians for Human Rights-Israel (PHRI) and is a leader in the Israeli human rights community. In previous roles, he worked for the Red Cross Delegation to Israel and the Occupied Territories, communications consultant to human rights NGOs, a journalist with Channel 10 and Haaretz, and a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s office during the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza.
