It is long past time for the war in Gaza to end, for the hostages to come home, and for the immediate distribution of humanitarian aid for Gazan civilians facing famine. That’s why we signed onto an open letter by JSpaceCanada stating that “It has been clear for many months, and never more so than now, that escalating military pressure and restricting humanitarian aid have not brought Israel any closer to releasing the hostages or ending the war.”
NIFC joined nearly 30 other Canadian Jewish leaders calling for an immediate ceasefire, an end to shootings and violence at food distribution centres, the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and medical care for Gazan civilians. The letter also calls for the rebuilding of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure and a stable alternative government to Hamas.
As JSpaceCanada’s letter reminds us, “Our Jewish tradition teaches that all people are created b’tzelem Elohim – in the image of God – and demands that we feed the hungry and care for the vulnerable.”
