Human Rights and Gaza

3 October 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Registration for this event is full. Jessica Burnstein will also be speaking at the Shabbat Speaker Series on October 5th – learn more and register here.

Thursday, October 3rd
7:00-9:00 PM

CSI Annex, 720 Bathurst Street
Join our learning session with young progressives about Gaza, human rights and why these topics are relevant to all of us.

In this workshop hosted by the New Israel Fund of Canada and Camp Shomria/ Hashomer Hatzair Canada, we’ll listen to understand the situation in Gaza, and strive to embody the role of human rights defenders ourselves.

Our expert in the room is Montreal-native Jessica Burnstein, who now works at an Israeli NGO called Gisha. Gisha, which means ‘access’ and ‘approach’ protects freedom of movement for residents of Gaza. Jessica will share her knowledge about Gaza: the humanitarian crisis, the blockade and related Israeli policy, and the impact of all this on the lives of Gazans.

The space will be co-facilitated by Robbie Solway, one of the 2019-20 Naomi Chazan Fellows with the New Israel Fund. Robbie was introduced to Gisha during the Naomi Chazan Fellowship study tour in Israel-Palestine, and is looking forward to bring their work to the Toronto Jewish community.

Bring your friends (ages 16+, or otherwise check in with us first)! Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Bring your own water bottle if possible!
